At its centre is the famous 1924 table lamp, which provides a perfect illustration of the hopes and ideals of the celebrated Weimar art school, but also of the challenges it faced. The table lamp is one of the objects most commonly associated with the Bauhaus.

The exhibition gives an insight into how the Bauhaus idea evolved in Wagenfeld’s work from the 1950s to the 1970s. Was Wagenfeld continuing the Bauhaus project or did he develop an entirely new approach? Contemporary lamp designs add an extra dimension by showing how today’s designers are building on Wagenfeld’s legacy.
